5 Things You Need to Know before Hiring a Makeup Artist to Represent your Company

eraseOne of the things you can do to ensure the success of a new beauty product, or increase brand loyalty on your brand is to offer a chance for the customer to try before they buy. As department stores have long figured out, when a customer is seated in a chair with a professional makeup artist, they are much more likely to buy.  They view that makeup artist as an ambassador of your brand; there to address their concerns personally. But having the WRONG makeup artist can backfire, so it is extremely important to get the right person to represent you. Here are five things you need to know before you hire a makeup artist.

  1. Looks matter

Remember that the makeup artist is representative of your product and your brand. 2.  Hire makeup artists with at least 2 years of experience

They need to feel that the makeup artist understands their beauty challenges. Did you have a certain makeup style in mind when you launched your product? For instance, if your product is unique and high drama, the makeup artist should come to work with makeup reflecting that. They should also be skilled in creating those looks. Reaching Out to the Next Generation of Shoppers

So it makes sense for brands such as Burt’s Bees to target College Students. Cosmetic Promotions helped them by distributing 75,000 coupons with samples of güd attached to female dorm room doors at 7 colleges nationwide. The bright and happy güd samples and artwork were collated into a bright blue plastic bag and hung on dorm room doors before Spring Break.

We are currently in the final stages of executing a sampling distribution of several brands to colleges this fall. We’ll give you an update in the next issue!

New Brands Focus on In-Store Sampling
to Turn “Shoppers” Into “Customers”

The first half of 2013 has been an incredibly busy time for the staff at the Cosmetic Promotions. Event booking has soared back to pre-recession levels, proving that manufacturers still believe the best way to launch a product is direct sampling.

In March, the agency provided Nail Experts to perform mini gel manicures in 300 stores. Customers flocked to the event and learned how to use the LED light and polish strips to create a quick salon-like gel polish that lasts up to 3 weeks. More than 2,200 pieces were sold – almost one per customer who tried the product. About 500 store associates were trained to help improve future sales.

Aveeno Sun Times Square Takeover

A huge sampling event took place in May to promote the new Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Sunscreen products and spokesmodel: Jennifer Aniston; whose image was projected on a huge digital billboard in Times Square.

The Cosmetic Promotions street team distributed 10,000 Aveeno Protect and Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen samples and coupons.

Plus, one of their skin experts offered demonstrations in a nearby store, helping customers choose the right products for their skin type and try out the products. The event was a great success — customers recognized Aveeno as a trusted brand and were excited to receive the samples.

Snail Mail is Still HIP in Marketing!

Indeed, in a survey conducted by the United States Postal Service (USPS), 98% of consumers bring in their mail the day it’s received and 77% sort through it immediately. Even the arrival of so called “junk mail” is greeted with enthusiasm. According to the USPS, people spend an average of 25 minutes with direct mail such as sales flyers, promotions, coupons, etc.

This is good news for the sender, since the same study showed that receiving targeted direct mail inspires many people to go out to the store or buy online from the retailers who sent it.
